Sweet Briar College Welcomes Sports Law Expert Janet P. Judge
SWEET BRIAR, Va. --- Sweet Briar College welcomes Janet P. Judge, one of the nation’s top sports law attorneys, to campus on Wednesday, September 7, 2011. Judge’s past presentations have covered a variety of topics including: gender equity, Title IX, social networking, hazing, and leadership. While at SBC, Judge will address the implications of social networking and the dangers of cyber-bullying. The 8pm event will be held in the Boxwood Room at the Elston Inn and Conference Center and is open to all Sweet Briar College students, faculty and staff. The Sweet Briar College Athletics Department and Office of Co-Curricular Life are cosponsoring the sports law expert’s visit.
The highly sought-after and ever engaging Judge, will enlighten the SBC community about the current state of social networking among college students. Judge will share timely and pertinent information about social networking, cyber-bullying, and consequences that accompany the seemingly free-for-all technology. Teresa Boylan, head Vixen tennis coach and senior woman’s administrator notes that Judge, “is a very dynamic person. We are very fortunate to have her visit our campus and educate our students and student-athletes.”
Judge, a former student-athlete and graduate of Harvard College, was an eight-time varsity letter winner in soccer, basketball and track & field. Her Crimson soccer teams made three NCAA Tournament appearances. After college, Judge served as an Assistant Director of Athletics at Harvard and then went on to earn a law degree. While attending Boston University Law School, Judge coached both basketball and soccer at Simmons College. Later, Judge worked as a law clerk for the Honorable Norman H. Stahl, United States Court of Appeals.
Judge frequently advises, educates and trains students, faculty and staff at campuses across all three NCAA Divisions. Additionally, Judge is a perennial presenter at both NCAA and NACWAA sponsored conventions and conferences.
